On April 29, 2011, Lil Wayne released what many believe will be his final album: Tha Carter III. The album was originally set to be released on October 28th 2008 but was delayed, and after a month-long delay, the album was finally released to critical acclaim.The album features guest appearances by Jay-Z Young Jeezy , Rick Ross Trick Daddy , T-Pain and Busta Rhymes . The production varies from beat to beat with different producers such as Swizz Beatz Dr. Dre Rick Ross and Polow da Don . The album has strong lyrical content and was widely praised for his subject matter and delivery. It won Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards of 2011 and also won Best Rap Solo Performance for "Diamonds," which was Lil Wayne's first Grammy Award.The Deluxe Edition of the album was released on January 31, 2011 and features a third disc of rare tracks, instrumentals and interludes. The fourth disc is an instrumental version of the entire album. In addition, a DVD with a special "behind-the-scenes" making-of the "Mula remix" is included, along with a music video for "How To Love".
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 selling 964,000 copies in the first week of its release. This is Lil Wayne's third #1 album on the chart after Tha Carter III and Tha Carter II, which sold 1,005,000 units in its first week.
When "Tha Carter III" was released it made Hip Hop history by selling 1 million copies in one week. It is the first Hip Hop album to ever achieve this feat since "The Eminem Show" back in 2002. The album has sold 2.28 mil copies by October 11, 2011. This album won Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards of 2011 and also won Best Rap Solo Performance for "Diamonds," which was Lil Wayne's first Grammy Award.The rapper has been accused of copying his titular tracks from Late Registration, a 2006 release by Kanye West. In the song "On Air," Lil Wayne raps: 'I said I'll get you on my album on ESPN/ I'm still new heights, I still get higher.' He then adds that he will give it to him on his third album. However, Kanye West sued him for stealing this line (among others) from the song "Flashing Lights" off his 2007 release Graduation. The lawsuit was dismissed in September 2009, with the judge stating that there was no copyright infringement. The judge also found that Lil Wayne can't be held liable for copying Kanye West's work, based upon an earlier settlement of similar claims by rapper Fat Joe. The judge ruled that "frustration" prompted Lil Wayne to use this particular line.
